2015 Acura TLX Production Details
On April 16 Acura showed the production version of the 2015 Acura TLX at the New York International Auto Show. On stage, they confirmed many of the details that had already been leaked but it was nice to see them officially presented.
The new TLX is built on a chassis that is 4 inches shorter than the outgoing TL while maintaining the same wheelbase. At 190 inches long, it's strikes a balance between the current TSX and TL sedans. because it has been tasked with replacing both cars, it will be offered with either a four-cylinder or six-cylinder engine.
The four-cylinder TLX will be powered by a 206 hp iVTEC engine with Direct Injection mated to an all new Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) with a torque converter. Acura's introduction of an 8-Speed DCT with torque converter is an industry first and is designed to provide superior drivability by eliminating the jerky feel associated with many other DCT's. to further enhance handling, four-cylinder models will also feature Precision All Wheel Steer (P-AWS) that originally debuted with the RLX flagship sedan.
The V-6 TLX will use a 3.5 liter iVTEC engine producing 290 hp. This single overhead cam design utilizes Direct Injection, Variable Cylinder Management and a brand-new 9 speed automatic transmission. This combination is expected to yield EPA fuel economy ratings of 21/34/25 (city/highway/combined) for the front wheel drive model. As with the four cylinder TLX, front wheel drive models will incorporate P-AWS for improved handling and stability.
As with the TL, TLX will be offered with Super Handling All Drive (SH-AWD) that has been substantially reworked to make it 25% lighter and smaller. with reductions in weight internal friction, projected EPA fuel economy ratings are 21/31/25, this represents a 5 mile per gallon highway improvement over the 2014 TL with SH-AWD.
Inside the all-new TLX you will find a beautiful, driver focused cockpit with dual screens, push button start, a multiview rearview camera, and dual zone climate control. V-6 models will receive the new push button gear selector also found in the RLX Hybrid.
For now, no pricing has been released and there is a lot more to cover in future posts. Please check back between now and mid-June when we hope to receive our first vehicles.
