2012 Acura TL - A Few Details
Dealers will be ordering the first batch of the re-styled 2012 TL this week. The restyled car will debut at the Chigago Auto Show on February 9th so we won't have to wait long. Changes will include a restyled front bumper and grill, new luxury features, a 6-Speed Automatic Transmission and the addition of an Advance Package.
It looks like this will be a different implementation from the ZDX, MDX and RL packages in that it won't feature the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) or Active Cruise Control (ACC). It will feature Blind Spot Monitoring and Cooled Seats, but what else? Maybe adaptive shocks from the MDX?
Also unclear at the time of this note, is whether all the TLs will get the new 6AT, or only the AWD, 3.7 liter cars? The order going in this week will be for February production with (estimated) March or April delivery.
I've added the color chart for the TL

Will the TL have a Type S model now or in the near future like the previous 2 gen did?
I am really hoping for a new Type S with more Power and technology!
Hope you're mistaken about Acura not offering active cruise control on the 2012 TL - Ford offers it on the new Taurus and it's clearly something that is expected in the 40,000+ price range. I've driven it in an S500 and it works GREAT in traffic - this feature is built by several different suppliers so it's just a product offering for the manufacturers and they can choose to include it or not on their models. Many folks buy the TL instead of the RL because the TL drives a LOT better (If sporty is better) so to reserve safety features like active cruise only to "luxury" models is, in my opinion, a mistake and I hope Acura doesn't do that.
It's time for me to get a new car, my 04' TL has been great but at 95,000 miles, well, it's time so I hope Acura has a decent refresh as I wouldn't buy the current TL - the chrome trim grill thing is just way too "look at me" again, in my opinion.
John, there were no Type-S' on our order sheet and it seems confirmed that there won't be one for this year.
04TL, I don't believe that leaving CMBS/ACC out was done to protect RL sales. I think that it was a move to try to limit the added cost to an already expensive TL.
Okay. Thanks Colin. Do you have any hints they would even offer a Type S for the current Gen?
Not really, the word I've heard is that the TL SH-AWD 'serves the purpose of the Type-S' in the lineup. Obviously this is without the badge and cache' of a special model. Personally, I wouldn't mind more power and technology, but I also acknowledge that the current car is approaching the upper limit of what 'most' customer are willing to pay. I'm not sure how they're going to add more content without adding more cost which would be a concern in this economy.
